Highlights of Namibia

Deadvlei

One of Africa’s ‘hidden’ gems is definitely the Deadvlei. Reading about the Namib desert, you will see Sossusvlei, Dune 45 (which are marvellous in their own right), but you cannot visit Namibia without taking a turn at the Deadvlei.

A calcrete white flooring, dead acacia stems for decoration and the majestic Big Daddy dune as a backdrop are truly a visual spectacle to behold.

The Deadvlei should be your first spot on the map if you decide to visit this Land of the Brave, Namibia.

Etosha National Park

Founded at the beginning of the 20th century and one of the largest wildlife parks in Africa, Etosha provides fantastic game viewing.

You can try and find the big 4 (leopard, lion, elephant and rhino), spot the great variety of birds and be impressed by the park’s unique landscapes.

Etosha means the great white place and when you drive on its gravel roads alongside its world-famous pan, you will surely understand why the local Oshiwambo people chose that name.

Sandwich Harbour

Is there a place where rolling deep yellow sand dunes plunge into the Atlantic Ocean? Yes, look no further and head to Walvis Bay. There you will be driving in a 4X4 towards the most impressive landscapes you have ever witnessed.

Wedged between the Atlantic Ocean and the Namib desert, this former commercial fishing port is also one of the most important wetlands of Namibia (RAMSAR site).

The sandy detour roads towards one of Namibia’s most beautiful sites is definitely a view which you will not easily forget.

Himba Tribe

Venture out into the Kunene region and meet the local Himba tribe which became famous due to their fascinating traditions.

The women apply a mix of ochre pigment with butterfat which gives them their typical red colour.

These semi-nomadic pastoralists breed cows, goats and live in cone-shaped structured composed of saplings, mud and dung.

If you are interested in meeting local people, African tribes and authenticity then the Himba people are definitely worth paying a visit.
