Materuni Waterfall and Coffee Tour

Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribe and it is still a traditional village. This amazing village is only 15km away from Moshi and it is the closest village to Kilimanjaro National Park.

In the morning, your guide will pick you up in Moshi and they will take you to Materuni. After you arrival, you will register yourself at the local office and then we can begin.

First of all, you will go to the waterfall which is approximately a 40 minute walk away. On the way there, your guide will tell you about the Chagga culture, village life, and they will show you the surrounding fauna and flora. The views are beautiful and with a bit of luck you might even be able to see the peak of Kilimanjaro. Once you get to the waterfall, you will see that it is over 80 metres tall. The lake by the waterfall is refreshing to bathe in on a hot day so don’t forget to bring your swim wear.

After you enjoy the scenery, you and your guide will slowly make your way back to Materuni, where you will then enjoy a traditional Chagga lunch.

That isn’t all. After you eat, you will go to the coffee plantation. Here you will learn how coffee is grown, dried, roasted and more. You will also be asked to help with grinding coffee during which you will traditionally dance and sing. This is a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture. Before you say goodbye and return to Moshi, you can drink the coffee you made and enjoy the sight of the rainforest around you.
