Amboseli, Lake Naivasha & Masai Mara

Amboseli National Park, Lake Naivasha area and attractions & Masai Mara Game Reserve

  • 6 days

Přehled

Six days gives you plenty of time to really experience these very popular parks and all the wildlife that they hold. Amboseli and Masai Mara are known for their great numbers of large and small game. At Lake Naivasha and the nearby parks, you’ll enjoy sailing, walking, and bicycle safaris that let you get near the animals. This medium-length safari will have you exploring five wonderful destinations and lots of natural wildlife.

There are two big reasons why Amboseli National Park is Kenya’s second most popular park. The first is that the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro dominates the horizon with its iconic snowy summit. The second is the large population of elephants striding over the plains. You’ll enjoy seeing both in this game reserve.

Lake Naivasha and its surrounding parks have a range of birds, grazing game, and landscapes that can easily be explored by jeep, boat, bicycle, and foot on some of the safaris that we have planned for you. You’ll sail by hippos and take a guided walking tour at the Crescent Island Game Sanctuary to see pelicans, fish-eagles, wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles.

You will enjoy a bicycle (or hiking) safari to the nearby Hell’s Gate National Park. Amidst hot pools and other geothermal activity, this unique tour will take you through a dramatic landscape. You will ride (or hike) past buffalos and impalas.

Then, it’s time to set your sights on Kenya’s most popular park, the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. This natural sanctuary is home to thousands of wild animals. It has over 90 species of mammals. All of Africa’s Big Five are here, and the park is known for having many lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, wildebeests, and zebras.

We can’t wait to show you these wonderful Kenyan parks so contact us, and we’ll quickly arrange your booking. If you have any special requirements or requests, just tell us. At Malaika Travel, it’s our job to customise your safari exactly how you want it.

The early morning is a very special time for a game drive. You’ll see the park come alive with the first stirrings of wildlife as the gentle early light plays upon the trees and plains. You’ll have breakfast and then you’ll be off on another drive in your 4 x 4, looking for lions, cheetahs and smaller game like hyenas, foxes, baboons, and monkeys. Amboseli has plenty of birdlife as well – crakes, egrets, herons, falcons, and eagles have all been spotted at the park’s marshes and lakes. You can also spot wildlife from the lookout vantage of Observation Hill where you may see buffalos, hippos, pelicans and more avian life below. As evening approaches, make sure to look at Mt. Kilimanjaro as its snowy peak may appear through the clouds.

This is your final night at Amboseli.

We’ll be up early for a final game drive and you’ll bid farewell to your many elephant friends as you leave the park and journey through the Great Rift Valley. Seeing this exciting landscape with its dramatic escarpment will urge you to stop and enjoy the views. You should arrive at Lake Naivasha in time for lunch.

Then, it’s time for a bicycle safari (or hiking if you prefer) to the nearby Hell’s Gate National Park to explore its imposing cliffs and canyons. You’ll be riding a bike (or hiking) past the park’s impalas, elands, gazelles, and buffalos.

You’ll spend the night at Lake Naivasha.

You’ll go on an early boat safari across Lake Naivasha, with the morning sun breaking upon the lake as you float by awakening hippos and exotic birds. You’ll follow that with a guided walking safari to the Crescent Island Game Sanctuary – a jewel of a reserve that quietly shows off rich flocks of birds and grazing animals such as waterbucks, zebras, and gazelles.

Then, you’ll be off to the Masai Mara National Reserve, the most popular park in the country. You’ll soon see why. Your first views of the park will be of its open space, its delightful acacia trees and perhaps some wildlife. The Mara is known to have the greatest concentration of wildlife in the region. So, you’ll start looking for the Big Five, as well as giraffes, zebras, ostriches, and so many others.

You’ll spend the next two nights at the Masai Mara.

Today shall be a game viewing extravaganza!

Your day will be filled with unlimited game drives and you’ll be traversing the golden savannahs in search of the large game like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and the smaller hyenas and jackals. Animal sightings are common in this park so you’re sure to be active and engaged throughout your drives. If you’re here from July through October, you’ll witness a stunning influx of wildlife into the park during the Great Migration – the season when gazelles, wildebeests, and zebras flood into the park over the Mara River. You’ll have a picnic lunch by the Mara River where you may see hippos and crocodiles awaiting the influx of wildlife.

We have more optional activities for you in the park. We can arrange for a visit to the local Maasai people, so that you can see their village and learn about their culture and lifestyle. This would be a good opportunity to pick up some of their colourful beaded handiwork.

Have you ever been on a safari in a hot air balloon? We offer a pre-dawn adventure that allows you to sail over the park watching the wildlife darting about the plains below. You won’t forget this unique adventure. Your driver/guide will be happy to make all the arrangements.

This is your final night at the Masai Mara.

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

After a leisurely breakfast at your lodge/camp, your dedicated driver/guide will assist you with the checkout process and you’ll proceed to Nairobi – Kenya’s colorful capital city.

On the way, your guide will point out the Longonot extinct volcano, which is a strato volcano located southeast of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya. It is thought to have last erupted in the 1860s and its name is derived from the Maasai word Oloonong’ot, meaning “mountains of many spurs” or “steep ridges “.

You can opt to drive to Naivasha for lunch/excursions at an extra cost, or drive straight to Nairobi and pass by Kiambethu Farm for the tea farm tour, which includes a three-course buffet lunch (at an extra cost). Or, you can drive straight back to the capital and later go to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back home.

We will bring you to your Nairobi hotel, residence or to the airport.
